The Honey of Words

Have you ever wondered if there is an expiration date on honey? Well, despite what you might find on the bottle's label, honey has this incredible ability to last...well, forever.

Archaeologists once sampled honey from 3,000-year-old Egyptian tombs and found it was still good to eat! The ancient Egyptians used honey not just as a sweetener but also as a preservative (Ally Hardebeck, 2017).

Proverbs 16:24 beautifully states, "Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” Just as honey remains a timeless delight, kind and pleasant words never lose their power to nourish others. Combined with Jesus’ words in Matthew 12:37, these verses remind us that our words will have an eternal impact on our lives and the lives of others.
