Leaving A Legacy

I can imagine two families huddled together on the day Israel was leaving Egypt after 430 years (Exodus 12:40-41). The great-grandmothers of both families were probably dead, but I am sure that as the families gathered around one another beginning the journey to the Promised Land, they remembered Grandma Shiphrah and Grandma Puah (Exodus 1:15-21). And each family said a word of grateful praise for the matriarchs of their families.

Little did these two ladies know that when they risked their own lives to save the Hebrew baby boys some 80 years before, one of the babies would be Moses, the promised deliverer. I am sure that as the families members looked to the front of the crowd of Hebrews and saw the man with the staff leading them to freedom, they couldn’t help but reflect with a little family pride about their grandmothers.

The thing about our choices today is…you just never know. Our faithful obedience to Him will have an impact, not just on our immediate families, but for generations to come. May there come a day when our future generation will look back with thanksgiving for our lives today.
