Revelation 2:17 states, "To him that overcometh will I give…a white stone, and in the stone a new name written." This verse takes on a deeper meaning when we examine its cultural meaning.
In New Testament times, white stones had a special significance in Roman trials. They were used to vote for someone's innocence, while black stones indicated guilt. So, when Jesus promises "a stone, a white one," He's making a powerful statement of our innocence in Him.
This imagery is so uplifting. In Christ, we're seen as innocent, no matter our past. We have a clean slate and a new identity in Him. Jesus views us through grace and redeems us from the burden of our past mistakes. It's a beautiful reminder of the redemptive love and forgiveness that He offers to each one of us.
“Sweet is the song
I’m singing today
I’m redeemed,
I’m redeemed”
