When We All Get To Heaven

Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was a vibrant, active school teacher in the late 19th century. Her future looked bright. But a reckless student struck her in the back, leaving her with a spinal cord injury that left her immobilized. Confined to her bed for an extended period, her body in excruciating pain, Eliza could have given in to bitterness and despair.

Instead, she turned to her faith. In the quiet moments alone, she wrote poetry and songs. As one who understood the reality of struggles and the pain of crushed dreams, she wrote:

While we walk the pilgrim pathway
Clouds will overspread the sky
But when traveling days are over
Not a shadow, not a sigh.

When we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We’ll sing and shout the victory.

So, if there is a shadow on your day or a sigh on your lips, it just means your traveling days aren't over yet. Keep walking! One day, you will see Jesus! And you will “sing and shout the victory!”

What we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.” (Romans 8:18)

After 40 years in full-time ministry, I try to see how the little things in life speak big things about God. This blog is an attempt to share with you the many ways I see the love of God in the ordinary things of life.
