Dining At The King's Table

In 2 Samuel 9:13, there is a beautiful depiction of grace and acceptance as Mephibosheth, despite his lameness, eats at King David’s table, much like one of the king’s own sons. “And Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both feet, lived in Jerusalem and ate regularly at the king’s table.” (NLT)

The king gives Mephibosheth, who represents us with our imperfections and brokenness, a place of honor and fellowship at his table.

This story resonates deeply with my story. Just as David invited Mephibosheth, God extended an invitation to me (and all of us) through Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter how broken we feel or how deep our struggles are; His table is a place where we find acceptance and belonging.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). At God’s table, the grace of Christ embraces and restores us, not defining us by our shortcomings. This is the essence of God’s unending love and mercy towards us.
