Abiding In The Storm

In 2 Timothy 3:14, Paul uses a powerful Greek word, “mene”, which translates to "continue." “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of…” Jesus used the same word in John 15 when he said, “If you ABIDE in me and my words ABIDE in you…”

Paul calls Timothy and all of us to stay true to our faith despite what is happening around us. As the pastor of the church in Ephesus, the words of 2nd Timothy are written to this young pastor whose church is experiencing persecution and decline. Also, it is written while Paul is confined in prison, reaching out to Timothy, reminding him to remain steadfast. Both are experiencing extreme difficulties.

This word "mene" isn't just about continuing; it's a more profound encouragement to persist and hold firm, no matter what. It's an invitation to anchor ourselves and stand firm and unwavering in our faith regardless of the storms blowing around us.
