A Sweet Aroma

According to zoologists, an elephant's trunk contains more muscles (40,000) than the entire human body (650). (bbc.com) It can also smell water sources 12 miles away! (seaworld.org)
The elephant's sense of smell reminds me of a distinguished couple who attended a church I pastored. They always dressed eloquently, and because of their cologne and perfume, they always smelled wonderful.

One day, as they entered our church lobby, I was standing with several other people, greeting and talking, when they both bent over and hugged a five or six-year-old boy. As they walked away, the little boy looked at me and said, “I like them. They make me smell good!”

Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “Now He uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.“ (2 Corinthians 2:14 NLT). May my life have such a sweet aroma that the people I encounter each day “smell good” because of our encounter.

After 40 years in full-time ministry, I try to see how the little things in life speak big things about God. This blog is an attempt to share with you the many ways I see the love of God in the ordinary things of life.
