Work Willingly

Sarah Arthur from the University of Northwestern, Saint Paul, shares an inspiring story about three bricklayers. When asked what they were doing, the first bricklayer said, "I’m laying bricks." The second replied, "I’m building a wall." The third proudly declared, "I’m constructing a cathedral to the glory of God." The perspective of each bricklayer varied greatly, even though their tasks were identical. (www.unwsp.edu)

We know that while WHAT we do is important, WHY we do it is equally or more important. Colossians 3:23 (NLT) says, "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” The Greek word for "willingly" means "from the soul."

Whether laying bricks or building walls, our motivation transforms the mundane into something magnificent…constructing a cathedral to the glory of God.

When we view our daily tasks as acts of worship and service to God, we saturate them with eternal significance. I desire to live my life today, seeing every action as part of a grand design for God's glory.
