Same Battle - Different Perspectives

I was watching a television special several years ago celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Allied troops landing on the beaches of Normandy during WWII. The special interviewed several of the men involved in this crucial battle.

They interviewed two men back-to-back, asking them their thoughts as they saw the magnitude of the battle. The first, on a boat crossing the English Channel, described stepping off amid flying bombs and bullets, dead bodies, and blood-red water. He thought, "We’re losing. We are losing this battle."

The second man, flying in an Allied bomber overhead, saw the boats and troops landing on Omaha Beach. When he observed the battle, he said, “I thought, ‘We’re winning! We are going to win!’”

Same battle. Different perspectives.

If you are in the heat of a battle today and it feels like you are losing, remember, there is another perspective. Lift your eyes, gain His perspective, and note what Peters says, “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.” (1 Peter 1:6)
