This Is How I Fight My Battles

Judges 1:1-2 is a pivotal moment where the Israelites seek God's guidance after Joshua's passing. “After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, “Which tribe should go first to attack the Canaanites?”

The Lord's response is specific and profound: “The Lord answered, ‘Judah, for I have given them victory over the land.’” This isn't just a strategic military move; it's a spiritual declaration. The name "Judah" in Hebrew means "praise" (from the root yadah, Strong's H3063). This choice by God underscores a timeless truth: victory always begins with praise.

Verse 3 says, “The men of Judah said to their relatives from the tribe of Simeon, Join with us to fight against the Canaanites living in the territory allotted to us.” Interestingly, the Hebrew word “Simeon” means "God has heard” (from the root Shim`on, Strong’s H8095). Don’t miss the impact of that truth. When we praise Him, God hears, and, like Simeon with Judah, He fights for us!

This story isn't just about conquest; it's a testament to the power of praise and worship during our battles. “This is how I fight my battles!”
