A study from Brazil highlights the cardiovascular benefits of laughter therapy, demonstrating that even a tiny giggle can expand cardiac tissue and enhance oxygen flow in the body, benefiting heart health. (Steinberg, Brooke, New York Times, (08/28/2023)
The study involved 26 adults, with an average age of 64, with coronary artery disease. For three months, participants were divided into two groups: one watched comedy programs, and the other viewed serious documentaries. Those who watched comedies experienced a 10% increase in their heart's oxygen pumping capacity. Laughter released endorphins, maintaining healthy blood pressure and reducing heart strain by keeping stress hormones low.
The study recommends engaging in laughter-inducing activities at least twice weekly to enhance happiness and reduce heart attack and stroke risks.
Isn’t it amazing how, when science moves beyond theory to proof, it verifies the teachings of Scriptures? "A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit. A cheerful heart is good medicine." (Proverbs 15:13, 17:22 NLT) So, improve your health today. Laugh a little.
