God Is Speaking

Caroll Spinney, who was cast to play and voice a new muppet named Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street, was struggled with finding the right voice that fit the character's grumpy nature and felt distinct from other Muppet voices. Despite his efforts in experimenting with different voices, none seemed satisfactory. Then he had an encounter with a taxi driver, who embodied the exact vocal quality, when Spinney got in his taxi and the driver asked, “Where to, Mac?” (The Wisdom of Big Bird)

It may surprise us to discover the many places we can hear the voice of God speaking in our lives, if we purposely live each day to listen carefully for his voice. “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left” (Isaiah 30:21 NLT)

Make no mistake. He is speaking. Perhaps today, in someone as unexpected as a grouchy taxi driver, or in a place as unexpected as heavy traffic, we can hear His voice.
