Small Beginnings

In our culture, we applaud those who accomplish great things. They speak at huge conferences, appear on podcasts, and climb best-seller book lists. And there is nothing wrong with that. We should applaud the great things God has done in the life and ministry of others.

But in our applause for those who have completed great things, let’s never forget that God gets super excited about those who BEGIN SMALL THINGS (yes, I know in social media vernacular I’m shouting…it’s on purpose)!

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” (Zechariah 4:10 NLT)

I love this quote from Jon Chasteen, “The real test of our character…is whether we are willing to plant seeds that will grow into trees, even though we may never sit under the shade of or pick fruit from their branches.”

Rest assured, what you are doing today may never get you on a podcast, at a large conference, or on a best-seller list, but if you are faithfully doing what He has called you to do, God is celebrating with you!

After 40 years in full-time ministry, I try to see how the little things in life speak big things about God. This blog is an attempt to share with you the many ways I see the love of God in the ordinary things of life.
