Your Focus Is Important

When I turned 15, I was legally required to take a Driver’s Education class to get my Learner’s Permit and eventually my Driver’s License. It was offered free of charge through the school system as a part of our school coursework.

One of the valuable lessons that stuck deep in my memory was the importance of staying focused on my lane when driving at night. The instructor, Coach Mullin, said that we tend to look at the oncoming headlights when a car is approaching. This is the line that stuck with me, “You will drift where you look.”

Isn’t it amazing how the principles of life are true in every arena of life? Christine Caine writes, “God wants us to be diligent in keeping our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus—laser focused. He wants us to stay the course, and where we focus is where we’ll go.” (Unshakeable)

It’s no wonder the wise man wrote. "Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you." (Proverbs 4:25 NIV) It’s easy to shift our focus when frightened, hurt, or lonely. That is when we always need to remember, “You drift where you look.”
