About Bad News And Foes

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all lived in Garrison Keillor’s mythical city of Lake Wobegon from his radio program, “A Prairie Home Companion,” which aired on NPR from 1974 through 2016? Keillor usually began his stories with, “Well, it’s been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, my hometown.” He would close the monologue with, “That's the news from Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."

Of course, Lake Wobegon is fictional. Most of us seldom have a quiet week. Life isn’t without bad news. That’s why I love Psalm 112.

My favorite verses are 7 and 8, “They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.” There is “bad news,” and we must “face [our] foes”.

However, we do not fear the bad news, and we are confident and fearless as we face our foes triumphantly. Why? Because “we confidently trust the Lord to care for [us].” So, when it isn’t a quiet week in your hometown and you are facing foes, remember to trust Him who cares for you.

“I sought the Lord, and He heard, and He answered! That’s why I trust him! That’s why I trust Him!” (Trust In God, Elevation Worship)
