Elmo's Checking In

“Elmo is just checking in. How’s everyone doing?” This tweet on Monday, January 29, 2024, from the “Elmo” account, elicited thousands of responses, with many expressing dismay and distress. Others shared feelings of joy and happiness. But another sentiment also came out loud and clear in the replies: Gratitude.

"Thanks for asking," wrote one person. "I am grateful for you, Elmo," chimed in another. "Thanks for stopping by, bud," shared another.

According to Inc.com, in less than 48 hours, the post had received over 12,000 replies, over 100,000 likes, and has been reposted over 46,000 times. On Tuesday, January 30, "Elmo" was the #1 trending topic in the U.S. on X (Twitter), with over 338,000 posts.

"Wow! Elmo is glad he asked!" responded the "Elmo" account on January 30. "Elmo learned it is important to ask a friend how they are doing."

Elmo's tweet provides a powerful metaphor about God. He is always concerned about how we are doing. And unlike fleeting social media trends, God's presence is constant and unwavering, inviting us to come to Him with our burdens and find rest. “Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

God is always asking, “How’s everyone doing?” And even though He already knows, He loves to hear you tell Him. Why not go ahead and do that?
