Hidden Treasure

In an August 29, 2023, article, the L.A. Recently, at West Point Military Academy, the personnel opened an 1828 time capsule, and they found it filled with silt, as reported by the L.A. Times. Times. The anticipation and excitement surrounding the capsule's opening turned into disappointment when they discovered that the contents, which were supposed to provide a glimpse into the past, had eroded and turned to dust.

The disappointment of that treasure contrasts with the parable Jesus told about the hidden treasure (Matthew 13:44). In the story, a man discovers a treasure hidden in a field. Recognizing its immense value, he sells all he has to buy that field. Unlike the time capsule, the treasure, symbolizing the Kingdom of Heaven, never erodes or disappoints.

While following Jesus can have its moments of difficulty, may we never forget the treasure we have found in Him is worth every struggle. As we used to sing when I was a kid, “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus!”
