One of my favorite stories in the Old Testament is the account of Jonathan and his armor-bearer confronting overwhelming odds. In 1 Samuel 14:1-7, Jonathan proposes a daring attack to his armor-bearer on the Philistine garrison, demonstrating his faith and courage.
They plan to reveal themselves to the Philistines, interpreting the enemies’ response as a sign from God on whether to attack.
“Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” (1 Samuel 14:6 NLT)
I love what Christine Caine writes in “You’re Not Finished Yet,” “I think one of the greatest keys to long-term endurance is to be willing to live in the ‘perhaps’ realm. If we wait for sixteen confirmations from God and three visitations from angels dancing on our beds before we do anything, we will never do anything. The life of faith is a life of risks.
May we live in the “perhaps” realm. Who knows, but if today, “the Lord will help us!”
