Standing On Heights

A few weeks ago, Shirlene and I visited Yosemite National Park for a few days. Though I had been to California several times, it was my first visit to Yosemite. The sights were as breathtaking as the Grand Canyon. One of the more famous sights is El Capitán. The 3000-foot wall of granite remarkably reflects the creativity of our God.

However, people often talk about the “nose” of El Capitán, and to be honest, from the valley floor and even from some of the higher elevations, I couldn’t see it. I chalked it up to my lack of visual creativity (you know, Shirlene always sees things in clouds I don’t see).

But on the second day of our visit, I hiked to the top of Sentinel Dome. And from a perspective that was higher than El Capitán and higher than the trees that blocked my views from the valley, I saw the “nose” of El Capitán (the last photo shows it)!

It is no wonder David declared, “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭18‬:‭33‬). My strenuous climb up Sentinel Dome reminded me that if I am willing to allow Him to cause “me to stand on the heights,” I too can see things from His perspective.
