Mihai Andrei wrote an April 30, 2023, article for ZME Science that tells the story of Unsinkable Sam. Sam, originally named Oscar, was a cat with an uncanny knack for survival. He began his naval journey on the German battleship Bismarck, which sank in 1941.
Rescued by the British HMS Cossack, his refuge was short-lived, as the ship was torpedoed months later. Miraculously, Sam survived again. Transferred to the HMS Ark Royal, fate struck a third time when it, too, was torpedoed. But Sam survived…again! After these harrowing escapes, Sam retired to dry land, living out his days in Belfast.
Unsinkable Sam provides a powerful illustration of life. None of us, including those who follow Jesus, are exempt from moments of intense struggle. However, we who follow Him know that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)
When going through difficulties, we can demonstrate the power of God’s inner peace and contentment. We can join with the Apostle Paul to declare, "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)

After 40 years in full-time ministry, I try to see how the little things in life speak big things about God. This blog is an attempt to share with you the many ways I see the love of God in the ordinary things of life.
